One guaranteed property does not control the whole rare item.
Deafening Essence of Sorrow has two eligible starting states in Path of Exile 1: it can upgrade a normal item to rare, or reforge an existing rare item. In either case it guarantees one property, while the rest of the rare modifier result must still be judged separately.
Choose the base and read the target preview first.
Use it when the guaranteed property shown for the target item class advances a specific craft. Start with a base worth keeping and evaluate whether the other resulting rare modifiers leave a usable item or only a temporary crafting step.
Reforging replaces the rare item's existing modifier result. Confirm the target class and displayed guaranteed property before applying the Essence.
Demand follows the useful target classes for its guarantee.
Exchange activity reflects players buying the guaranteed-property crafting attempt. It does not prove that every supported base, every reforge, or the random remainder will be valuable.
