Orb of Alteration
Understand how an Orb of Alteration replaces every random modifier on a Path of Exile 1 magic item and why each attempt can erase a useful result.
What happens if you use it?
All random modifiers on the magic item are reforged.
The base item and magic rarity remain.
The correct base needs a different magic modifier result.
A useful roll can be erased and many attempts may be required.

Reroll the random modifiers on a magic item.
An Orb of Alteration reforges a magic item with new random modifiers. It replaces the current random modifier set rather than adding one more modifier to what is already there.
Define the acceptable outcomes before rolling.
Use Alterations when the magic item is the correct base and repeated random rolls are an acceptable route to the desired prefix, suffix, or combination. Decide in advance which results are good enough to keep.
Every use removes the current random modifiers, including a valuable roll. It works on magic items, not rare items, and does not guarantee a specific modifier.
Repeated crafting attempts create steady demand.
The price of one orb is only the entry cost. The practical crafting expense depends on how rare the acceptable result is and whether the player stops when a useful intermediate roll appears.
