Corruption and Irreversible Choices
Understand corruption in Path of Exile 1 as an irreversible item state and learn what must be finished before taking an unpredictable Vaal Orb gamble.
Corruption turns an experiment into a final commitment.
The imported Vaal Orb directions state that a corrupted item cannot be modified again. Corruption is therefore not simply another modifier result. It changes the item's future by closing ordinary modification options after the unpredictable outcome is applied.
The decision has two linked consequences.
First, the item may be modified unpredictably. Second, it becomes corrupted and leaves the ordinary crafting path. Those consequences must be evaluated together: even a result that appears unchanged or disappointing still carries the permanent corrupted state described by the source directions.
Prepare the item as though no correction will be available.
Complete planned ordinary crafting and confirm the item is already usable before considering corruption. Compare the possible appeal of an unpredictable result with the certainty that normal modification ends. The more valuable or carefully prepared the item, the more important that final review becomes.
Do not corrupt an item while ordinary changes are still planned. Do not describe the outcome as guaranteed improvement or guaranteed profit. Specific possible corruption outcomes require their own sourced documentation and should not be invented from the Vaal Orb's short record.
