What happens if you use it?
A magic item becomes rare and gains one guaranteed Lightning Resistance-themed modifier.
The underlying base item remains.
The base is eligible and the guaranteed result advances a planned craft.
The random remainder can be weak, and an ineligible rarity cannot be used.

Upgrade magic to rare and force one modifier.
Essence of Grounding upgrades an eligible magic item to rare and adds a guaranteed modifier associated with its Lightning Resistance identity. It is not a general reroll of an existing rare item, and the other resulting rare modifiers are not guaranteed by the Essence.
Start with the correct magic base and verify the preview.
Choose a magic item whose base and build can use the Lightning Resistance-themed result. Confirm eligibility and the displayed guaranteed outcome before committing; judge the finished rare by its complete modifier set.
The source rule applies to a magic item. Do not assume PoE1 Essence behaviour or plan to use it as a normal-to-rare or rare-item reforge.
Demand follows the forced modifier and eligible bases.
Exchange activity reflects players buying a controlled Lightning Resistance-themed step from magic to rare. It does not guarantee that the remaining rare modifiers form a valuable finished item.
