Add a random modifier to an eligible magic item.

A Greater Orb of Augmentation augments a magic item with a new random modifier. Magic items can have up to two random modifiers, so the target needs an open slot and remains a magic item afterward.

Start from one modifier worth preserving.

The cleanest target is a magic item whose existing modifier is valuable enough to keep and whose open slot supports several useful outcomes. Check whether later crafting requires that slot before filling it.

Before you use one

The added modifier is random, magic items stop at two random modifiers, and a weak addition can close the available slot. This is not a rare-item augmentation.

Focused magic-item crafting creates demand.

Exchange activity reflects attempts to extend promising one-modifier magic items. The price cannot tell whether the starting modifier or random addition makes the finished item useful.
