Orb of Augmentation
Understand how an Orb of Augmentation adds a random modifier to a Path of Exile 1 magic item, why the two-modifier limit matters, and when preserving the first modifier is worthwhile.
What happens if you use it?
One random modifier is added to a magic item.
The existing modifier and base item remain.
A good one-modifier magic item has room for its second modifier.
The added modifier is random, and a full magic item cannot accept it.

Keep the first magic modifier and add one unknown partner.
An Orb of Augmentation adds one random modifier to a magic item. Path of Exile 1 magic items can have up to two random modifiers, so the orb is used to fill available modifier space rather than replace the result already present.
Continue only when the existing modifier deserves company.
The clean decision starts with a one-modifier magic item whose current property is worth preserving. The orb supplies a second random result; if the first modifier is already poor, adding another random property rarely fixes the foundation.
You cannot choose the added modifier, and an already-full magic item has no space for the orb's effect. Confirm both the existing modifier and the open slot before using one.
Low-tier crafting utility can still produce active trade.
Augmentation Orbs support repeated early and intermediate crafting decisions, but their exchange value changes with league abundance and demand. The live reference is market context, not evidence that every use is efficient.
