A Path of Exile 1 Regal Orb turns a magic item into a rare item. Its current modifiers remain, and one new random modifier is added. This is not a fresh rare-item reroll: the magic item's existing properties become the foundation of the result.
Start from a magic item worth preserving.
The controlled part of the process is preparing or finding a magic item with modifiers you actually want. The Regal Orb then adds one unpredictable property and changes the rarity to rare, opening the possibility of further rare-item crafting decisions without erasing that starting roll.
The added modifier can be irrelevant or conflict with the intended item. Retaining the original modifiers does not guarantee that the new rare will be useful. Confirm the magic base and its existing roll before applying the orb.
Preparation quality changes the value of the attempt.
The orb's exchange value moves with league supply and crafting demand, while the practical cost also includes the effort spent obtaining the starting magic item. A current market ratio cannot tell you whether the prepared base is worth risking on one random addition.
