A Path of Exile 1 Orb of Scouring removes all modifiers from a magic or rare item. The underlying item remains, but the properties that made the item magic or rare are cleared. It is a reset tool, not a reroll that immediately supplies replacements.
Use it when the base is valuable but the current result is not.
The decision separates the selected base from its present modifiers. Scouring makes sense when that underlying base deserves another crafting route and none of the current modifier work is worth preserving. Plan the next step before erasing the current state.
All modifiers are removed, including good ones. The orb does not create a new magic or rare result by itself, and prior crafting investment is not refunded. Confirm the base and the intended follow-up route before committing.
Resetting has a price beyond the orb itself.
The exchange value measures the current cost of the scouring currency, while the practical cost also includes everything previously spent creating the modifiers that will disappear. League supply and crafting demand move the observed ratio over time.
