A Path of Exile 2 Regal Orb upgrades a magic item to rare, retains its current modifiers, and adds one new random modifier. Because a magic item can already carry a limited modifier set, the result is built from that known starting point rather than generated as an unrelated rare.
A deliberate bridge in incremental crafting.
Use it when the current magic modifiers justify becoming the permanent core of a rare item. The imported record begins at drop level 5. The additional modifier is random, so the decision is less about expecting perfection and more about deciding whether the prepared magic item deserves another step.
The current modifiers are retained, but the added modifier cannot be chosen. Do not confuse Regal Orb with Orb of Alchemy in PoE2: Alchemy discards current magic modifiers and creates a new four-modifier rare, while Regal preserves them and adds one.
The orb and the prepared base both carry cost.
Current exchange value describes the currency, but not the time or resources invested in the magic item being upgraded. When comparing crafting paths, count the prepared base and the risk of an unhelpful added modifier alongside the orb's observed market price.
